Summer hockey for the Winnington men's XI got back to winning ways on Friday with 6 goals only conceding 1 to a late breakaway goal.
Winnington could not break Crewe down for the first 30 mins, on a hot balmy night with temperatures still in the high 20's. Andy Palin was called into action a number of times, saving a number of close-range shots. From a saved short corner, Winnington broke with speed and crisp passing for Jack Smith to open the scoring.
Winnington continued to press with a number of attacks and a few mins later Alex Davies doubled Winnington's lead.
After the break, Liam Mckee increased Winnington's lead, Crewe started to gather a bit of momentum and Andy Palin was called into action with more saves. Winnington were back on the attack and won a penalty flick, deftly put away by Liam Mckee, scoring his second and Winnington's fourth of the evening.
Crewe were now wilting in the heat as the Winnington XI started to press home their neat passing switching the ball from wing to wing. Edward Shand got Winnington's fifth and Ryan Crouchley secured the win by getting the sixth.
Winnington were denied a clean sheet when Crewe got a consolation goal with almost the last hit of the game.
