The first team laying in third place of North West Hockey League div 1 played 2nd place Didsbury Northern. Didsbury were unbeaten in the last three, Winnington started the match strongly with some slick passing which created a number of chances early on. With the pressure building on Didsbury the breakthrough came after a well worked short corner which ended in a flick being given which Pete Evans coolly slotted home in the bottom corner. With 10 minutes to go, Didsbury Northern started to pile on the pressure but Winnington stood firm executing a half-court press. Just before the break John Paul Dodd, made a great save to keep the home side in front at halftime.

In the second half, Winnington remained in control of the game, with Didsbury Northern not creating any chances. With 15 minutes left on the clock, Winnington took advantage of their dominant display as they scored again from a well-worked short corner, with Josh Guy the goal scorer. Winnington comfortably held on for a 2-0 will which gives them a good chance to catch Didsbury in 2nd. Man of the Match was Josh Guy for his composure in the middle of the park. Winnington 1st team have 2 games this weekend and have a chance to draw level on points over Didsbury Northern if they win their game in hand.
